other peoples kids

Hey.  Some shots from the last couple of weekends.  A cool animal birthday party for Oliver and Isabella (twins) this Saturday.  And below that the Reynolds over for a rainy Sunday afternoon a week earlier.  The lollypop shot is from last weekend.  Luca and Dad walked down the the shop to spend his first allowance.

Between 6 and 7, Friday night...

...cyber midget hacked into the system.

Dad picking up Thai food after work and Mom putting Piper to bed.  Luca got a chair and started pressing buttons on the computer.  We have taken photos before with the computer and he managed to open the camera function (among other applications).

When Kelly found him he was sticking his new cd (thanks Emeline he loves his cool new cd!) in the drive.  Mom says, "Luca you need Mom or Dad to be there when you're putting discs into the computer..."  and Luca says,  "I know Mom, just cd's...  not tools."

rainy weekend

Knitted hat a la K.   Fall in Zealand...

Luca seems to be fasting in the days (no idea how he grows)  but sometimes he wakes up super hungry anywhere from 4am.  The shot below is breakfast at the crack of dawn.

The pictures above are from Saturday.  A nice rainy weekend goofing around including a sweet walk to the store for a bottle of wine.

Big huge congratulations to Scott and Sara who ran away by themselves and got hitched at Long Beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island this week.  We look forward to celebrating with you in July.  Woooo!

TED

Some brain candy to share.

If you haven't watched anything from TED you are missing out.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

Click "Talks" and have fun!

There are many excellent talks but here are a couple of must sees:

1.

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

With stunning photos and stories, National Geographic Explorer Wade Davis celebrates the diversity of the world's indigenous cultures, now disappearing from the planet at an alarming rate. He argues passionately that we should be concerned not only for preserving the biosphere, but also the "ethnosphere" -- "the sum total of all thoughts and dreams, myths, ideas, inspirations, intuitions brought into being by the human imagination."

3.

In this soaring demonstration, deaf percussionist Evelyn Glennie leads the audience through an exploration of music not as notes on a page, but as an expression of the human experience. Playing with sensitivity and nuance informed by a soul-deep understanding of and connection to music, she talks about a music that is more than sound waves perceived by the human ear. She illustrates a richer picture that begins with listening to yourself, and includes emotion and intent as well as the complex role of physical spaces -- instrument, concert hall and even the bones and body cavities of musician and listener alike.

Piper Smiles for Grandma

I didn't catch her talking but here are some smiles...
